Prof John Verzani (2001) summarizes some of the major benefits of using
R (Project R) for learning and teaching statistics as follows:
- R is free.
- R is open-source and runs on Linux, Windows, and Apple.
- R has an excellent built-in help system.
- R has excellent graphing capabilities.
- R is a computer programming language.
